Google is working for bringing more content to turkey

.Richard Alec Turner, Director of Android EMEA Partnerships, is one of the Google executives in İstanbul for ”Think with Google” event. Turner talked about the process up to Jelly Bean, the new features which has come with Jelly Bean and gave some numbers about Android.

As Richard Turner stated once again, there are approximately 650.000 apps on Google Play Store. The number of Android devices are above 800 and Google cooperates with more than 300 mobile carriers in more than 50 countries. It is recently announced that the total number of Android app downloads has past 25 billion.

Google had cooperated with an establishment called Open Handset Alliance for the launch of Android. The alliance’s main purpose was to provide open, free and complete operating system to users. Until Gingerbread, Android versions are designed for mobile handsets. With Honeycomb, tablets are started to be taken into account and with Ice Cream Sandwich a single platform is established for every device.

Turner labelled Nexus 7 as a reference device for Android Jelly Bean. He stated that users’ feedbacks and complaints are considered during the development of Android Jelly Bean and these inconveniences are largely fixed. Richard Turner underlined features such as notification system, home screen widgets, enhancement of sharing options from camera and Google Now which provides the option of voice dialing, makes recommendations according to users’ habits.

Turner also talked about the improvement of Google Play Store. He stated that they want to improve the service and increase the number of options and contents but he did not give a timeline for improvments. Turner stated that the company keeps working for providing navigation and live traffic feed services in Turkey and these services are going to become available as soon as possible.

Android has been recently criticized by different researchers about security. Turner spoke about the security issue too and said that the company works hard to create a secure ecosystem, just like the company did on searching. Turner had also a few words about the chances of Google and Android in enterprise market. According to Turner, small and medium enterprises are important opportunities for Google and Android to have a larger share on enterprise market. Turner also spoke about the one of the recent hot issues: Patents. He repeated the company’s official view about the patent cases and said ”Google prefers to focus on innovation, not litigation”. Turner said Google has big support on FATİH Project which aims to deliver tablets to every student in Turkey. According to Turner, the project reflects Turkey’s potential for electronic devices.*
